Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is money for children with care and/or mobile needs. It is not means tested nor is it taxable. Care needs implies that your child needs support with bodily functions such as eating, washing, toileting and getting dressed. Care needs could also suggest that your child needing support socially too. Your child’s needs should be more than expected for a child of their age.

Mobility needs suggests that your child needs

support getting around. For example, they could be a wheelchair user or have difficulty walking. Mobility needs could also be claimed for children who experience severe learning disabilities and severe behavioural problems. The higher rate of DLA can only be claimed once your child has reached age three. Whereas
